Why This Trip Is Different From a Normal Commute
A trip to Branson or Table Rock Lake isn’t just more miles; it’s a different kind of driving than most of our customers do day to day. It means sustained hills, more highway speed, often a fully loaded vehicle or a boat in tow, and it’s frequently a trip people make without having had the car looked at recently. That combination is exactly when small, ignorable issues turn into a roadside problem two hours from home.
The Checklist
Brakes. The grades around Branson and Table Rock Lake put more sustained heat into your brakes than city driving does, especially towing. If it’s been more than 12,000 miles or a year since your last check, get it looked at before you go, not after you notice a problem on the way down.
Tires. Check tread depth and pressure — including the spare, which almost nobody checks. Uneven wear that’s tolerable around town becomes a real handling issue at highway speed on curving roads.
Cooling system. Hills plus summer heat plus AC running is the hardest combination on a cooling system all year. A coolant level and hose check takes ten minutes and prevents the worst kind of roadside call.
Battery. If it’s summer, remember that heat, not cold, is what’s already stressed your battery this year. A quick test before a trip catches a weak battery before it strands you at a lake house instead of your driveway.
Wipers and fluids. Ozarks weather changes fast, especially near the lake. Fresh wipers and full washer fluid aren’t glamorous, but they’re the first thing people wish they’d checked when a sudden storm hits on Highway 65.
